Marcus wonders at the brevity of life, and questions the truth of this surreal world as he gains insights into the powers his current state grants him. Choosing a moment from his son Aiden’s life, he dives in. In a faux-apocalypse awash with broken, desperate people, solar flares lap at what might be the last night Aiden has left to share with his comatose wife. A drunken encounter with a grieving parent on a mission to find a cursed gun leads Aiden to wonder if he is holding on to something he no longer possesses -- something that no longer exists.
